My Breathwork Bio

I stumbled into a conscious connected breathwork journey at the age of 21. This was a time of great uncertainty and insecurity in my life, as I navigated the treacherous waters of being a young adult and figuring out who I was and what I wanted to do in life. This breathwork journey showed me a part of myself that was free and peaceful, an essential part of myself that I hadn’t even known existed.

Over the last 35 years, breathwork has been a mainstay in my life in keeping me sane and balanced and a tool of self discovery.

As a further serendipity, I stumbled years later inadvertently into a breathwork facilitation program that changed the trajectory of my life. And for the last 20 years i have been facilitating both individual and group breathwork journeys which has brought me a previously unknown sense of purpose and fulfilment.

At some point, people started to ask me  if I would teach them how to facilitate. At first I refused, not feeling like I had the time nor inclination to put together a curriculum. But about 10 years ago I finally gave in and discovered that not only do I have a natural propensity to teach facilitation skills to people but I also derive great joy from sharing the principles of breathwork I have learned over the last 20 years.

I have spent 4 years in breathwork trainings: BodyMind Academy, Breath of Love, Alchemy of Breath as both a student and mentor to hone my skills and incorporate my learnings from many other modalities as well such as hypnotherapy, energy work, etc. but at the end of the day, the greatest education i have had is the honor of facilitating thousands of people in breathwork journeys. I have facilitated online groups as large as 200 and in person up to 60 people. And I have taught well over a thousand individuals both online and in person how to not only be led in a breathwork session, but how to take themselves on journeys at home. One of my greatest passions is to not just facilitate but to educate people around breathwork: why it’s so impactful, beneficial as well as how to interpret their experiences in such a way that they can continue to work with the medicine of the journey. People who are experienced breathworkers, whether personally or professionally, have told me they have never learned the things that I share with people about breathwork.

I share in my breathwork training not only the foundation people need to know about the many benefits of breathwork and the how to’s of facilitating it, but also all the shortcuts I have learned through my own trials and errors.

I cover the wide range of experiences that clients may have, ranging from catharsis and tetany to some more subtle ones that can easily be overlooked such as being aware that whatever is showing up in the breathwork is a microcosm for how we are showing up in life, so there is no bad journey even if we are resisting it. It's always a gift of awareness.

I teach people facilitation skills that they employ from the moment they open the door to a client: it starts with embodiment and the ability to ground a client simply through their own transmission of anchored presencing. Clients start to feel safe and held simply by the facilitators ability to hold space for them in a resourced way. During the breathwork journeys, I teach facilitators to maintain a connection to their inner guidance so they can support the client in an intuitive way using either touch or the voice rather than having a formulaic approach. And finally, at the end of the journey, my students learn to coach the client on how to not only extract but work with the medicine of the journey long after it’s over which is what sets this apart from just being an experience. My students learn how to inform their clients that what they experienced is the truth of who they are, as other than energy, nothing in the breathwork journeys gets created that wasn’t already there whether that’s peace or strength.

The shortcuts I provide in my training are primarily how to phrase things when speaking to a client based on where I have seen that line of conversation go through my own experience. It’s how to hold a position of authority so my client feels safe, based on where I have doubted myself in the past. Shortcuts I share have to do with timing as well as I have perfected a flow through both 1:1 sessions and groups. And they might have to do with the setup of the space.

I based my breathwork facilitator training on what I didn’t get with my other facilitator trainings which was essentially that there would be a curriculum and when the training was over there would be no more support. Whereas in my training, after the first immersive week, there are 3 months of calls where my students bring to the table all the challenges they may have faced in their practice sessions or questions that only come up once we start facilitating. There is no way a curriculum can include everything whereas here everyone has a chance to learn not just by getting feedback on their own particular set of circumstances but by also listening to what is coming up with the other students.

One of the aspects of my training program which has developed for close to 10 years, is my ability to mentor people in stepping into themselves more fully in a facilitator role. I can see where a student may be holding themselves back in some way such as one student who had a hard time speaking with authority so we worked on that together and I recommended that she take voice lessons. She is now a full time and powerful breathwork facilitator.

I have another student that is now incorporating breathwork in a holistic prominent cancer center and he is in great demand both with staff and clients to share his gifts. He is making waves in his area by exposing not just the medical staff but also the administrative side of the hospital to breathwork and they can’t get enough of it as it is greatly improving morale and levels of stress in the staff.

Several of my students are full time breathworkers for a retreat company in Sedona and I get to hear the rave reviews of their clients all the time which makes my heart so proud! Many of their clients come out of a session with them and one of the first things they say is: “ I want to learn how to do this for people. How can I do that?” I am about to train another wave of facilitators for this retreat company and then a group of people from around the country. It’s so exciting to think of people all over the country turning more and more people on the many benefits of conscious connected breathwork.

One student is incorporating breathwork into his private meditation retreats and 6 month mentorships which has taken his offerings to another level, according to his clients. He wasn’t sure at first if he wanted to take my training because he was already such an experienced facilitator in many ways but he is so grateful he did. He told me that it looked easy to facilitate breathwork as all you do is watch people breathe (a common misconception) but he was so grateful to have learned the depth of information I shared with him and the nuances in how to support clients, as it not only has made him a great breathwork facilitator but improved his facilitation skills overall.
